Trump, apart from being crass and unfiltered, doesn't have the character required to be president. Additionally, he doesn't know what he's talking about and will be taken for a ride, the same way Bush was taken for a ride by Cheney. And what happened after 8 years of Bush? We got 8 years of Obama. And the Hillary we would've gotten 8 years ago would've been 100 times better, for the health of the country, than the Hillary we're getting today.

I'm also hedging my bet on Trump losing because we're due for a recession soon and I would prefer not to have a Republican like Trump in office when it happens.

If Cruz, Rubio, or really, any other Republican got nominated save for Trump, you'd be seeing a lot more focus on the issues, a fired up Republican base and Hillary and the media would be on the defensive, especially with Cruz. He has been preparing for the presidency from the day he was born, and none of these gaffes that Trump has would've been an issue with Cruz. He wouldn't even wear a cheese hat because he was worried it would sink his presidential chances like it did Dukkakis. Maybe Cruz has the wrong politics but to survive the MSM minefield, you need a person of strong character to make it through the gauntlet. Trump simply is not that person and a lot of people predicted this would happen months before Trump was nominated. Because we nominated Trump, we own him and his baggage and that puts us on the defensive. Even Podesta in leaked emails admitted that Hillary would struggle vs any other nominee save for Trump, and they were especially afraid of Rand Paul.

Very true. I think the American people got sick of politicians and that's whats lead to this current situation. I don't understand the hysterical support for Trump, but I understand even less the support for Clinton when I consider the policies herself and her husband were a part of and what they've done to the country and the economy.

Yeah, I can understand why someone would vote for Clinton because they are afraid of Trump and vice versa. I can understand why someone would support Trumpism even if I disagree with nationalist ideology. I don't understand why people would vote for Clinton because they support her candidacy and politics and I don't understand how people can support Trump the human being.

Moved back to the TC because it's ABDeL's thread and I expect he can handle it being in his board.

I can't understand how someone would see Cruz as preferable to Trump. Just see the thread i made "why cruz is the best candidate"

The whole election has been a disaster for the republicans, just look at all the clowns they brought for the nominies. How is it even possible not to have a single strong candidate.

Mean while the democrats had Bernie. If only it wasn't rigged(i mean the way NY was incredibly unfair) you wouldn't be in this situation.

Polls showed every single Republican nominee defeating Hillary in the General, any of them except for Trump. Yes and this includes Cruz.

Cruz is essentially the smart Republican's Trump. Trump stole all of Cruz's positions the way that Hillary stole Bernie's.

I don't think Cruz had a chance vs Hillary. Kasich or Rubio maybe. Cruz comes off as a crazy evangelical, and that's if you're willing to ignore the whole "abolish the IRS" crap he was spouting.

Cruz would've had an uphill battle, but he had shown positive polling before the Republican national convention. Trump didn't start polling above Clinton until the convention. Additionally, Cruz knew the value of a data driven ground game, something Clinton is currently KILLING Trump on.

You may not agree with Cruz's politics, but he's been preparing for this for his whole life.

Cruz has some strong weaknesses for a general election but is a masterful campaigner. Although I think jumping on the Trump train is damaging for his long term brand.

Wow really? That's so so strange...

The republican policies seems so backwards and ancient.
People find personality and character more important than policies?

Give us evil policies, just not crooked hillary!

Polls are garbage and extremely faulty. The silent majority will be the ones to decide this election.

Yeah, thats not how it works.

Republicans have managed to convice significant part of American public to vote against their interests (tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, more wars)

Brexit polls consistently showed a close result, the polls in presidential race do not show that at all. It would be a historic miracle for Trump to turn this debacle around.

Though you're right. The polls were close. But I think the average American who doesn't actually get polled or give a damn about polling would be more concerned with the threat of nuclear war than rape allegations that seem to coincidentally correlate with the massive wikileaks dump.
